I along with everyone else living in Torbay has been saddened to learn that Moses Peter the waving man has been taken seriously ill. Moses was out waving in the Preston area of Paignton on the 19th of this month and was found unconscious by a member of the public. He has been hospitalised and is believed to have suffered a stroke. Moses, the bearded robe-clad man has become a fixture on the roadside between Paignton and Torquay and has brought so much joy into everyone who sees him. He sits there waving and smiling at everyone who passes by and no matter how low you might be feeling, seeing him just instantly makes you feel so much better. Very little is known about Moses, as far as I remember he first appeared sitting and waving on the road side at Livermead, but in more recent times at the top of Preston on the main road. He does it only to try and spread some goodwill around and everyone loves this man and will be wishing him all the best and a speedy recovery. There are far too many unpleasant people in this world, some just intent on causing harm to others by way of word or deed. I know one or two of them myself and just think what sad people they really are who must just be so unhappy with their own life they have to try and ruin the lives of others. The special ones like our very own Moses are few and far between and what a better world it would be for us all, if only more of us could be like him. I have waved back to this wonderful man so many times and I just wish I could have had the opportunity to talk with him. I hope he soon recovers and can get back to what he enjoys doing and that is bringing warmth and happiness into the lives of everyone who sees him. We love you Moses and miss you so much, hope to see your smiling face again really soon.

Moses Peter is recovering well in hospital and his family has been using Facebook to update well-wishers on his condition.
A posting on Saturday by his wife read: "This afternoon Moses was in better spirits, managed a wave to the camera.
"He told me in a very serious tone that should he not make it, I'm to be happy and get on with my life! So I told him that if by that he means hes thinking of sneaking off 'Back Packing' round India, he's got another thing coming and I would be hiding his passport!
"This made him laugh and smile for the first time! He will be reading all the messages tomorrow, as we hope to take in a laptop! Thank you to everyone who has been so kind."
Lets hope its not too long before he is back waving to us all.

The latest message from the family
"Moses is slowly improving but it will probably be a long, difficult road ahead.
"But like everyone who is going through ill health and in hospital at the moment as he is, we can only take one day at a time.
"Strokes come like 'thieves in the night', and in a flash can steal away all the good things about our lives that we take for granted, our independence.
"Learn all you can to protect yourselves and your loved ones!
"Moses sends his love to everyone! x"

Latest update on Moses Peter
He says his actions are spreading a message of love, joy and happiness.
In their latest bulletin on Facebook, his family wrote: "Moses is doing OK. He is missing his daughter Lottie, who has been unwell too.
"He is grateful to all the NHS staff who have been so kind to him, and all the other patients, sometimes in really difficult circumstances.(Protect our NHS).
"He's really missing walking carefree in the sunshine, and seeing all the people who go out of their way to acknowledge him.
"Torbay people are the best!!
"There's a bench somewhere, waiting for his return! Keep it warm for him!"

The latest on Moses on the Herald Express website
THE family of Moses, the famous seafront waving man, say he is still 'taking each day as it comes' after suffering complications in hospital.
Bearded, robe-clad Moses (pictured), who has become a Torbay landmark, suffered a stroke and collapsed on Torquay seafront.
Since then he and his family have been inundated with thousands of messages of goodwill from around the world, including a picture of David Chambers with a home-made 'get well' card.
Moses, who is also known as Moses-Peter, has become a popular and slightly mysterious figure, waving to passers-by from various locations along the main Paignton to Torquay road for the past three years.
Many people say that his wave has the power to brighten their day.
Now his wife Diane Wyles has told the Herald Express: "Things are very chaotic at present.
"My husband Moses, is OK. He's had some complications, and the health team caring for him are dealing with that.
"We are still not exactly sure yet just how great his recovery will be. It's still very much taking each day as it comes."
His daughter Rachel said: "He is having physio but it all depends how well he responds to the treatment. We still don't know."
The family has also revealed early reports that Moses had collapsed at Preston were incorrect.
Diane said: "We are still finding out exactly what happened on the day he was taken ill.
"We were misled into believing he was in Preston but he wasn't. He was near Belgrave Road, near the bowling green.
"A young couple went to his aid, and an ambulance was called."
She added: "He's had a lot of mail, and has enjoyed reading the cards from so many people, from other countries too.
"They include two drawings, one from this little boy who is called David Chambers."
One message to Moses on Facebook, which has had 3,000 messages since he was taken ill, said: "I am astounded at what one man can do, in a time when the world is in need of hope and sunshine. Just looking at all these messages makes you realise what a positive impact you have made to so many people. Rest up big man, keep smiling and see you on the road real soon."

I would like to wish Moses all the very best for 2014 and let him know just how much we miss seeing him. no one in Torbay has ever brought so much happiness into others lives just by sitting by the roadside and waving to everyone passing by. Moses you are so loved by the whole of Torbay and so many others who have driven past you and felt you love and warmth. some very recent pictures of Moses the wave man

I saw him a couple of weeks ago in Paignton, being pushed in his chair by the gentleman in the photo. He didn't look as happy or healthy as he did when waving to everyone. i think he may miss it.
Good health sir

I follow Moses The Wave Man of Facebook and like so many people miss seeing him waving to us as he did when we drove past him. for those who do not follow his Facebook page an update on his well being was on the Herald Express website yesterday. I have incuded two pictures of Moses, one in better times and one taken on Exmoor in 1973 with his two children From the Herald Express 11/10/2014MOSES, the roadside 'waving man' who sat beside the main road from Paignton to Torquay greeting passing drivers, has sent a message to his followers.
He has been absent from his regular roadside perch since suffering a stroke in 2013, and has more than 2,500 followers on Facebook. Many of them have been asking for updates, having missed him at the roadside.
His wife Diane told them he is making a slow recovery and was 'devastated' to have missed another summer. She wrote: "Strokes rob people of their freedom of thought, their freedom of movement, and life becomes very difficult. I wish I had better news, but not yet, the Stroke Association local representative has said recovery can take up to three years, and in some cases, some people never recover!
"I hope I have better news as time goes on!"
His Facebook account also features a poem written for his followers.
It reads: "They said I was the 'Waveman', a Wizard or a Geek,
I simply waved back to you, when your car gave me a beep,
The love I felt around me, on those 'Golden Days' of sun,
Comforts me most moments, now my life is almost done!
Never forget just be kind to all you meet,
Its the greatest way to live,
None of us know how long we've got,
Remember just to GIVE!
With much love from Moses!"
He also encourages people to visit the Stroke Association website to learn more about the condition.
