Waldon the cup holders won this game by two goals to one, but it was a game they so easily could have lost. Paignton Saints will feel they are very unlucky not to be in the hat for the next round having given everything they had to try and win the game. Waldon were well on top at the start of the game and it was no real surprise when they took the lead. A cross into the box headed home by their number fourteen. The big surprise was they were not able to add to that lead after missing a number of good chances.
Saints won a free kick on the edge of the Waldon box and the shot came down from the underside of the crossbar and was fired home from close range by their number ten. So at halftime it was one all and Saints started the second half so well and deserved a goal for their efforts. It looked like they were going to take the lead when a shot had the Waldon keeper beaten, but sadly for the Saints the ball hit the base of the far post and stayed out.
Waldon were struggling to cope at the back with some fine runs down the left hand side by the Saints winger but were also looking very dangerous themselves when they were in the Saints half. One cross to the back post was met by a header close in by their number fourteen again and that goal ended up being the winning goal.
An enjoyable game to watch and one in which Saints came so close to winning.
