I was meant to be meeting someone today who had to cancel at the last minute. So I had not planned to cover any games today. After working till gone 12 last night on a match report, I did not fancy doing a full coverage of a game today now I found my afternoon was free.
I live in walking distance to Paignton Community college and thought I would just pop along to a game taking place there to try a few different camera settings. None of them worked as I had hoped and that shows in some of the photos on this post.
Today I was shocked, horrified, saddened and disgusted when I found out just how much Torquay Town has been fined by the South Devon League this season. I am sure there are other clubs not far behind.
We are talking about clubs that do not receive any gate money, no profit from bar takings and no rooms to rent out for any social events. Clubs made up of lads who just want to play a game of football, people running the club to make that happen for them.
Guess what? These levels of fines won’t be found in the Peninsula league, they might be able to afford them, no this is happening in the real home of grassroots football.
I felt the cold reception I received at the Foxhole ground last night from certain SDFL Officials, it did not bother me. I am aware Neil Hocking who kept telling me how much I was promoting the SDFL no longer shares the links to my match report on the SDFL facebook page or the clubnets one. Am I really now such a bad boy? The thing is I have never been afraid to stand up and say what needs to be said ( to all those over five foot three I really am standing up when you meet me) we live in a world where the truth hurts some and others who listen and try to make positive changes.
For Torquay Town today’s game was a nothing game and we all know the reasons why. But they fulfilled the fixture and I take my hat off for them doing just that.
I have covered a Barton Athletic 1st team game this season and it has been a very hard one for them with so many heavy defeats. But they kept going and I was pleased to see just how good their 2nd team was today.
The game ended in a three all draw, it was nice today just being able to watch and enjoy a good game of football. I have now finished covering game for this season, but god willing I will be back next season, I wonder how many clubs will still be in the SDFL then.
Many thanks to all my readers, if my reports have been enjoyed then I have fulfilled what I set out to do and that has been the only reward I have ever needed.
As I said the settings experiment did not work, so I will stick with what has worked so far
