Paignton Villa Ladies V Bradninch Woman FC 29th May 2022
With teams folding left and right in the South Devon League this season, it has been good to see one club going the other way. Paignton Villa has just set up a thirds men’s team and a brand new ladies team. Villa is a great club with a long history and it has been a pleasure to cover a number of their games this season.
Today was a special day for the newly formed ladies team, a day that the preseason journey began in their first eleven a side friendly the ladies have ever played together against Bradnich Woman FC who play in the Devon Woman’s League.
I decided to go to Whiterock and lend my support to the Villa ladies and also take some match photos. I remember many years ago on the same pitch covering the then newly formed Shaldon Ladies very first game against Brixham Villa Ladies, today’s game reminded me so much of that one.
Just like Shaldon the Villa Ladies were well beaten today by a high score line against a team who have been playing together all season. But Villa has a number of good players and will improve the more games they play together.
Villa ended the first have losing by six goals to nil, but was much tighter at the back for a good long period in the second half. But they ended up letting in another five goals with the final goal number eleven being the goal of the match. A thirty five yard screamer that flew into the back of the net. The Villa Ladies can hold their heads up high, there is no shame in losing your first real competitive match, Stick together and keep working hard and the wins will come.
