Buckland Res V Abbotskerswell 23rd April 2011
It does not matter if you are watching Buckland’s first or reserve team play, you just know you will see a cracking game of football played at a good high standard. What I love is the Buckland player’s mentality that sees them doing all they can to get the ball forward for the whole of the ninety minutes.
I have to say I enjoyed today’s game more than I did watching the first team take on Bovey Tracey on their ground yesterday and would add the reserves played as good if not better then the first team did against Bovey.
Buckland were clearly the better side in the first half, yet went in at half time surprising one goal down. Their approach play was pleasing to watch, but for some strange reason, all the Buckland players seemed afraid to take a shot at goal. Time after time the space opened up for a shot on goal that just never happened.
Buckland nearly found themselves behind after their keeper came to the edge of the box to make a clearance and only managed to hit the ball against one of his own players. An Abbots player got on the ball and took a shot at the empty net from wide on the left hand side and his shot just went past the far post and behind for a goal kick.
Abbots goal came from nothing really; their number nine had the ball at his feet some 25 yards out and surprised everyone including the Buckland keeper with a power driver that flew past the keeper who was rooted to the spot.
On to the second half and the Buckland players went up a gear and were certainly in attack mode. Wave after wave of attacks happened with out getting the goal that was so well deserved.
Then a good through ball was played into the path of the Buckland number ten, to be honest I was in line with the Abbots defence and I would have given him as being off side. As the keeper came out he cleverly lifted the ball over him and into the net.
Buckland’s second and third goals were both scored by their number four, both right foot shots as the ball came across the box from the right hand side. Goal number four was scored by their number two. The ball came to him wide of the right hand post and he fired his shot across the keeper low and hard into the back of the net.
