Bovey Tracey Walk
It you want to go on a nice walk and one close if you live in the Bay, then the Bovey Tracey walk is nice and easy to get too and there is a car park right at the start of the walk.
It’s also not a monster long and mostly easy on the legs so that suited little Dave R to a T. Mind you this was one of the walks we got wrong and did not do it just as the book said. This is partly due to the fact that we have often found the instructions not as clear as we would like them to be.
Still we did one bit extra and also missed out one small part we should have walked. The bit we missed was at point 6 on the map, it says to go over a style and that is what we did; only it should have been one a bit further up the road.
The result was we walked through Blackmoor Copse when we really should have walked around the top of it. We came out the end of the copse at Parke and we were then back on the route again.
At the start of the walk you can walk through the meadows or walk along the dismantled railway line, both walks meet at the same place a bit further on. Maybe Barton will add a bit on this thread about the old railway line.
Walking through the copse was great anyway as it was just Carol and I and it seemed we had the world to ourselves. Only got to taker one wildlife shot and I’m sorry for the content of the picture, but it was the only thing that moved or we got to see.
After the walk we had a delightful meal in the old thatched pub next to the car park in Bovey, sadly it was very badly damaged by a major fire not long after we did this walk. Does anyone know if it was been rebuilt? It was such a charming place with its low timber beans everywhere.
