I was not in favour of Torbay Road being changed when Rock Walk had all that work done on it, but have found the changes have speeded up the traffic flow along that stretch of road. I have always found it a bit confusing when using the road to get home to Paignton at the point you are moved over to use on half of the road that was once just one way.
The main reason the traffic flows better is that there is no longer any parking allowed on the Rock Walk side that is now the two way lane and as a result cars to do get held up while waiting for cars to get into parking spaces. The other lane once used as the out lane for the harbour area is used for parking, but then cars always used to park along it in the old road layout.
Now the council are going to spend some £46.000 putting the road back as it was and mainly to increase the number of parking spaces that will all be metered. That I fear is the main reason why the council wants to make these changes that will take place once the summer months are over. I do happen to believe it will make the area much safer again as there has been many near misses there and a number of pedestrians have also been injured.
Its just a shame Rock Walk can’t be put back to the way it once was, yes the viewing platform is something very good, but the rock face is still bearing the scars from when all the vegetation was cleared from it and it has never been lit up the way it once was.
