PSF. Elburton Villa v Buckland Athletic 13/07/2013 Buckland play their first preseason game today away to Elburton Villa from the Carlsberg Premier Division. It will be my first visit to the Hayes Road ground and I'm so looking forward to finally getting behind the locked gates I drive past every Wednesday.
It’s going to be a very hot day today with temperatures around 30 degrees so not ideal to play football in, but I'm still hoping for a fast and exciting game to watch.
I will put up a match report with match photos later this evening.
Possible Buckland line-up for the match.

First thing to do is to thank dear Amy for writing down the Buckland team for me and also thanks to the kind man from the Elburton side for doing the same. I really enjoyed my afternoon despite the sweltering heat that reached a staggering 35 degrees so credit must go to both sets of players for playing in such heat in the first place. I half expected to look down at the end of the match and see myself standing angle deep in lard that had melted off my body, how those boys ran around all afternoon and worked so hard I will never know.
The Hayes Road ground is a very tidy ground indeed and a very good setup and I will do a report with pictures of the ground very soon, just like to say what a nice friendly welcoming club Elburton are and I hope to go there again later in the season to watch them play in league action.
Onto the game that was played at a good pace and was hard to tell was just a friendly as both teams set out to win the match with both teams producing some very entertaining and pleasing on the eye football at times. Very surprising Elburton had the much better start and were well on top for the first fifteen minutes of the fist half. They stroked the ball around neatly in midfield and looked good until they got up to the Buckland box, but all their moves then seemed to break down.
During this early spell my man of the match Buckland’s number seven Si Revell who was playing out on the right wing, was knocking a few long balls forward that were not finding their intended target, when he does get it right, Buckland always look very threatening Buckland took the lead against the run of play, a neat through ball fell at the feet of Josh Webber who took one touch before firing the ball across the keeper and into the bottom of the right had corner of the goal.
Buckland started to get a much better control of the midfield and also started to enjoy much more procession of the ball. The few shots that Dan Gillard had to deal with in goal for Buckland were all long range ones from outside the box. One such shot from Chris Clarke did not enough power in it to worry Dan who had an easy save to make.
Buckland were very soon two in front after a good move started by Si Revell, his clever pass played in Gavin Hammon who held off a strong challenge and then did a neat turn to get his shot away. It was a good strike that Simon May could only beat out with his hands and the ball fell kindly to Bucks Jordan Havlin to fire home.
Up the other end Elburton’s Lewis Edwards hit a sweet dipping volley from about 30 yards out that only just went over the crossbar. Meanwhile Gavin Hammon hit another good shot from just inside the box the keeper did well to save. Gavin then played a big part in creating goal number three for Buckland. Once again he was strong on the ball when he needed to be and played the perfect square pass to Jordan Hammon who was on the edge of the Elburton box who then hit a fine shot into the far right hand corner of the net.
It was so nearly four just before halftime for Buckland and what a spectacular goal it would have been had it gone in. once again another good bit of play from Si Revell before he put in a very good cross about waist high. At the back post was Gavin Hammon who hit a fine first time volley and he must had thought he was going to score, only to see the ball hit the left hand post.
The ref blew up for halftime and Buckland decided to stay out on the pitch, maybe just because the dressing rooms are a fair distance away from the pitch. They made a number of changes for the second half that they started very strongly and were having the loin’s share of all the play.
Elburton’s attack simply disappeared and at that stage it looked like Buckland would add more goals to their first half lead. Jamie Micklewright went on a good run for Buckland and got a good low shot away that Simon May did well to get down to and save.
My man of the match then received the ball out on the right hand side of the pitch from a throw-in, he made a good run into the box and with the angle narrowing got a shot away that hit the post and came back into play with the ball ending up on the edge of the area for Jamie Micklewright to hit, but his shot just went wide of the post.
But Jamie did get rewarded for all his hard work when he was played into the box with just the keeper to beat; he coolly rounded the keeper and fired into the empty net. Elburton did have one more effort on goal and it was another 25 year effort from Chris Clarke that flew over the crossbar.
I thought Jamie Micklewright was going to get his second goal of the match when the ball fell to him about eight yards out, but he only managed to scoop the ball over the crossbar. Bucks came very close right at the end of the game to scoring goal number five; a great ball was played to the edge of the Elburton box from the right hand side of the pitch. Jordan Havin got the ball under control and turned neatly hitting a good clean shot that hit the base of the left hand post.
So in the end Buckland won by four goals to nil and their extra class proved to be the dividing line between the two teams, Buckland have nothing to fear in the coming season, they are a good well disciplined side that has many talented players in it.

Saw some nice touches from one of the spectators yesterday. !!!! may be will should sign him up.what do you think.Dave,Danny Gaze has always been one of my favourite players and did a fine job yesterday breaking up most of the attacks coming down the right hand side of the pitch. I fully agree that the young lads who have made the step up from the reserve side all played well and did not look out of place. I have always felt a good side needs a good mix of young and older players, maybe Buckland are missing at least one older head in the side right now, only time will tell if that is the case as the new season progresses. On the subject of that very talented spectator I have to agree he showed some quality touches as he retrieved the ball when it left the pitch. On that very point I will just add that LORD BUCKLANDGULL just lay on the grass never moving himself to go and retrieve any of the balls that left the pitch, NO he just left it all to me to do. lol

Wish i'd have gone down there now, instead I made the trek east to Tiverton Town v Plymouth Argyle - (Chris Wright played the 2nd half and did ok for Tivvy). Still, at least i was guaranteed a programme at Tivvy, which was a double issue for the Torquay match on 23rd July.
