Liverton United Team Photo 1978/79 season?

While at Homers Heath yesterday, Bucklandgull told me he had brought with him an old photograph that he thought might interest me. It was a team photo of a Liverton United side that he believes was the 1978/ 79 team and one player in that side was a player called Terry Waye.

Terry Waye married my cousin Dawn in Newton Abbot and I do remember that it was said he was a very good player. As soon as I looked at the photograph I knew it was him and yet I have ended up very confused about my memories of once going to watch Terry play out at Liverton.

If this photo really is the 1978/79 team I would have been 24 years old when it was taken and I know the dating of the photo must be correct as my then next door neighbour’s son, Tony Elsby is also in the photo. In my early 20’s I was living in Linden Terrace in Newton Abbot and the Elsby family moved in next door. I remember Tony played local football but I never knew what team he played for and I never knew he played in the same side as Terry Waye.

I have always thought that Terry Waye had played his football many years before and was playing during my childhood days when I was the Newton Abbot Spurs mascot.

My Newton Spurs Upbring

Bucklandgull said he thought Terry was in his 30’s when the photo was taken and if that is correct then he may well have been playing football in the early 60’s as a teenager around the time I was the Spurs mascot.

One other face I recognise in the photo is someone I went to school with at Highweek School for Boys, Geoff Brimblecombe. Also in the photo are I. Rumbelow and D. Pady who are listed on what looks a very out of date Liverton Club website as the current Chairman and Vice Chairman of the club.

Bucklandgull himself is also in this team photo and how handsome he looks with hair lol



The spellings of the player’s names I’m putting up might not be 100% correct as one or two are difficult to read on the back of the photo.

Terry Waye Bucklandgull told me he thought Terry might have passed away last year, does anyone know this for sure?

I have a fabulous picture of the entire Liverton first and second teams at their ground at Halford.

There are many well known faces on that photograph and I can list the names of the people's names that I can remember.

My problem is that I do not know how to download the photo onto this web site.

I would love to share it with you all, and I believe the photo is around 1981/2/3

It would be brilliant if someone could advise me how to download it as it's not obvious to me.

Hi Micky would love to have the picture up on the site.The best way is to upload the image on a site like photobucket and then copy the direct link and then paste it in the image link in the post window on this site. You can always email the picture to this sites email addess and leave the rest to me. While at the Buckland game last Saturday I spoke with bucklandgull about your opening post. He said he remembered you and was going to try and log on here and make a post if he could remember his password.
