Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Division One East
Stoke Gabriel V Liverton
Saturday 21st September 2013 kick-off 3pm
Venue Churchward Memorial Ground I know not everyone will feel the same way as I do, but I happen to find it rather sad what has happened to Liverton who were one of the top clubs in the area. They have a top class pitch and a tidy ground that does need some improvements made to it. The big story was that players were going to leave the club as they had not been paid and we all know a certain well known manager parted company with the club at the end of the last season.
There is talk now that the club are manager less again, I even heard it has been suggested that Mr Lynch formally the Buckland manager could be in line for the job, or possible Richard Hancock is in charge at least for the moment.
Liverton have played five games so far this season and have been thumped in most of them. They have only managed to score one single goal so far this season and have conceded a whopping thirty three. What chance will they have against a Stoke side that has won four, drawn one and have scored eighteen goals conceding only one.
I went and watched two of Stokes pre season friendly games and against what I believe as a full strength Plymouth Parkway side, they looked a very good side once the defence were able to stop the very fast and talented Parkway forwards from doing any real damage.
Liverton last season were playing in the Premier League and asked to be dropped down to the Division One East as they feared they would no longer be completive in the Premier League. I’m sure the club never expected to have such a bad start to the season and one wonders what will have to be done to turn things around.
If I was a betting man I think I would be happy to put £10 of a Stoke 10 nil win, but I’m not and I did hear that Anthony Lynch could be playing for them and while I do not know if that is the case or not, that man always has a goal or two in him.
if you are looking to watch a good game of football then come along to Stokes ground where a warm welcome is always guaranteed and the pasties are very nice indeed.
Match report and match pictures should be up by 7.15pm on Saturday

Final score Stoke Gabriel 22 Liverton 0 well that’s how many I counted, but some thought it was either 21 or 23 that Stoke scored. Special thanks to young Tom for all his help today, hope you did not eat all of the left over food yourself today Tom, you will only end up fat like me lol A big well done to the Liverton players who did turn up today and big thumbs down to those who did not have the bottle to turn up and face what was always going to be a bit of a hiding. Liverton had just the eleven players and with the greatest respect to three or four of them, it was clear there were a few older players just trying to make the numbers up. When Liverton went down to ten men after only ten minutes due to an injury, the writing was on the wall. At that point they were only one nil behind.
I do not know what the future holds for Liverton, if things carry on the way they are going I can’t see them finishing the season and that would mean all the teams that have beaten them, losing the points and all the goals they scored. The match stats would show for this match that Stoke had more than fifty attempts on goal, while Liverton never had a single one and not once for the whole ninety minutes even got one of their players into the Stoke box.
It was no more than a training session for the Stoke players and if it was not for my man of the match Dan Badger playing in goal for Liverton, Stoke would have scored at least 30 goals. Save after save poor Dan made and he deserved to have a far better team in front of him than what he had today. But like I said credit to the Liverton players who gave it a go and never gave up even when that 22nd goal went in.
Stoke took the lead after only four minutes, Kris Davis played a ball over the top of a very static Liverton defence and Gary Fisher ran onto the ball and fired it past Dan Badger. It looked to me as if Gary Fisher was offside along with another Stoke player but the flag stayed down.
Stokes Dave Worthington was then played in on the right hand side of the Liverton box, but he blasted his shot well over the crossbar. Dan Badger then made a wonder save as Stoke wasted so many final balls into the box when they were camped in the Liverton half.
Gary Fisher broke into the Liverton box and was brought down just inside it and the ref rightly pointed to the spot. Gary picked up the ball and placed it on the spot and took the kick himself. But Dan Badger made a fine save but could not hold onto the ball and it dropped at the feet of Kris Davis who fired it into the back of the net.
Goal number three saw another good save made by Dan Badger, but once again the ball came off him and fell to Stokes Gary Fisher to fire home. Goal four came straight from the restart, Stoke quickly won the ball and played it up to Ben Tower who burst into the left hand side of the Liverton box and hit a powerful shot across the keeper. Dan Badger did well to get down low and get a hand onto the ball but sadly for him Dave Worthington was there to tap the lose ball over the line. Dan made another good save but once again the ball ended up lose at the back post for Dave Worthington to fire home.
By now the Stoke players were attacking at will and goal number six came about after another defence splitting pass was made to Dave Worthington who beat one player before steadying himself to shoot to Dan Badgers right into the back of the net, it was a cool finish.
Onto the second half that was all one way traffic I’m afraid, the Stoke players were all keen to get on the score sheet and a good number of them did. There was so much space on the left hand side of the pitch and Stoke took full advantage of this space and ball after ball was fired into the box from there.
Far to many second half goals to described them all and while Dan Badger made a number of good saves, so many times the ball simply came off him to the feet of a waiting Stoke players for simple tap ins.
Dave Worthington got goal number seven, goal number eight Gary Fisher looked offside to me as he fired home. Ryan O’Callaghan got goal number nine, Goal ten saw a good through ball that played in Craig Fenner who lifted the ball over Dan Badger who went down rather early to try and block any shot.
Gary Fisher got goal number eleven; Craig Fenner was there again to get goal number twelve. Goal number thirteen was a good run and shot by Olly Cricthlow, Ryan O’Callagham was there to fire home from close range after the ball came off Dan Badger again for goal number fourteen.
A good run and shot by Ben Tower saw Liverton go fifteen behind, Olly Crithlow added to his total when he robbed the ball of the foot of a Liverton defender just out side the box and ran into the box and buried the ball past Dan Badger.
Goal seventeen saw Olly played into the box and with just the keeper to beat and he did. Goal l eighteen was scored by Dave Worthington, nineteen by Gary Fisher, twenty by Ben Towler, twenty one by Dean Stevens and finally goal number twenty two by Dean Stevens.
I’m not going to see many games where a team wins by such a high score line, it’s not the sort of score line you would expect at this level of football, but if players are not going to turn up and play for Liverton, then they are in for a few more hidings. I did hear that Liverton are hoping four or five new players will be joining the club next week. They sure need some new players and fast, but once again I take my hat off to the Liverton players who did turn up today.

So if I got it right and the final score was 22 nil, that means in six games Livertons first team has only scored one goal and let in a staggering 55 goals. that must surely be some sort of league record and one wonders if things do not improve and they keep getting thumped, just how many goals they will concede in the coarse of the whole season.
you would think watching a game with 22 goals in it would be entertaining at the very least, but that was not the case and it was just like watching a training session where an attack takes on a defence. the Stoke players could do no more than just try and play their own game, but I'm sure they would have rather come off the pitch at the end of the game knowing they had been in a good competitive game.
I went to the match expecting plenty of goals, I sure got what I expected.

The league website has the final score of 23 to nil, lets be honest its hard to keep count once ten goals have been scored and they were coming at two a minute at times lol.

What the Herald Express had to say about the match
A record that might never be broken... By Herald Express
Thursday, September 26, 2013
STOKE Gabriel boss Gary Fisher was this week trying to bring his players 'back to level ground' after their record-breaking win over Liverton United last Saturday.
Fisher scored five goals as his team romped to a 23-0 win over Liverton United – breaking the existing league best by ten goals.
That best was also set by Stoke Gabriel, a 13-0 win over Ottery St Mary in 2009. No fewer than five players – including Fisher – scored hat-tricks as the Railwaymen compiled their tally, with 16 of the goals coming in the second half.
Liverton were 7-0 down at half-time and conceded a goal roughly every three minutes in the second half. Fisher said the last time he had seen a scoreline like that was in 'pub football' – and added that he thought it may never be broken.
He said: "For men's Saturday football I've never known it – I've personally never seen anything like it. "It's just surreal really, but it's nice to be part of a record and shows that we're up and coming. Realistically I can't ever see it being beaten."
This weekend, the Railwaymen are at home again, this time facing Division One West outfit Truro City in the Throgmorton Cup first round (2.30pm).
"We've got training in between, so I will try to get their heads back on level ground," he said. "Going into another league game will be quite hard to be fair – but we don't know anything about Truro so we will just go into it in a professional manner.
"At the end of the day I said before the game that all that I wanted was three points and a clean sheet. "But the goal difference could help over the course of the season if we're level with another team – it's worth an extra point."
Liverton United take a break from league action to host Plymstock United in the first round of the Throgmorton Cup on Saturday (2.30pm).
