TUFC Ladies Pat Sowden Cup final winners 2015 Season
ANT ROACH, the Torquay United Ladies manager, is already planning for next season after his team won the Pat Sowden Cup on Friday night.
The ladies beat Brislington 4-2 at Coach Road with the game bringing down the curtain on United's first season in the Premier Division South West Women's League – and now the manager wants to improve on the team's third-place finish next time around.
"It was a fantastic end to the season," said Roach. "It is always good to go into the summer break on a high. "My targets are to strengthen the squad in the right areas and we will look to go at least one better in our league position than this season.
"This season was about consolidating in the league and getting ready to push on next season. To finish third is an over achievement in my eyes as I would have taken a mid-table finish before the season started. "But the hard work and dedication throughout the season has paid off and we have reaped our rewards with two cup final appearances and third place.
"I now know what is needed to really push us on next season and this season has been a great learning curve on a personal level for me – and we will work harder and be stronger and keep on knocking on those doors."
Against their Bristol visitors the Torquay ladies took the lead on 30 minutes when Brislington scored in their own net. But they were 2-1 down before Gaby Trays scored a header from a Sian Chapman corner on 75 minutes to bring the game level. United went ahead in the 82nd minute with Louisa Stentiford-Crook scoring a free-kick – and then there was a goal in time-added-on for their returning striker Laura Gough.
Roach said: "We will be back in pre-season training in early July and we will be holding open trials for any players who want to join this progressive and forward thinking club."
