Torquay Seafront Delights 5th July 2015
Over the years I have got rather fed up with the knockers of Torbay and Torquay in particular. Yes there are empty shops, but that is the same for any town or city you visit. Yes there are some areas that need to be improved, some have just suffered neglect and mostly because of cutbacks by the council.
I decided today to do a photo shoot showing Torquay at its best, but my day ended up getting rather soured, but more of that later. I parked my car in the Torre Valley car park and fed the meter £4 in total and off I set for the seafront. I knew I had a whole four hours to walk around, but in the end it only took me just over two hours.
Some people have complained about the lack of flowers on the seafront, but there are plenty enough and so many wonderful looking palm trees. On the beach the Torquay sand artist was busy making his latest creation, while in the harbour the jellyfish swam around. I have been reading lots about the jellyfish invasion so was not surprised to see them.
The big wheel looked wonderful and was being well used, Cary Green looked lovely, we must keep the fight up to stop it being turned into a car park for a hotel we do not need or want.
Both inner harbours were full of some wonderful craft, there must be some money in Torbay somewhere. Rock walk is looking a little better now it has some plants growing on it, the bottom pathway is a delight to walk along, but it will never be what it once was.
The building that replaced the Palm Court Hotel has won many awards, it’s a fine looking building considering it is a modern one, not the grand slender of the Victorian Palm Court, but it fits in well with its environment.
I go back to my car and found a parking ticket on it which I have already appealed on line. This is something that happens to so many people who live in the Bay or visit it. You do not get a ticket you can stick on the window, but one you just place loose on the dashboard. The problem is you close the door and they so often turn over. The seafront was very windy this afternoon and while I knew I put it up the right way, I just forgot to check it after shutting the car door.
It happened to Lyn recently and it got over turned, lets hope mine does as well.
