Torbay Steam Fair 1st August 2015 It’s been a good few years since I last went to the Torbay Steam fair and with this year promising to be the biggest and best; I knew I had to go along while the sun was still shining. There have been some years when the fair was washed out, but not today, but there were a few drops around at times.
You have to give huge praise and thanks to the men and woman who have so much time and money preserving these wonderful machines for everyone to enjoy. From those who have the very large steam engines, right down to the ones who have built and own the smaller working models.
I do not how the size of the Torbay Steam show compares to others held in other parts of the country, but it does seem to be a good size one and today the public were there in their thousands. There is so much to do and see and it’s a good value day out costing just £8 to get in on the Saturday and Sunday. The packed programme full of so much information costs just £2 and was well worth buying.
In this modern throwaway world, its good so be able to see and enjoy things from our past, there is a magic about steam and while I do not know one engine from the next, I love being able to be up close to them and marvel at the way they were built.
A big well done to all those who work so hard each and every year to put such events on, I wonder what people will think of these wonderful machines in a hundred years time?
