1968? Newton 66 Team Photo & Others & The Reunion
Bucklandgull alerted me this morning to an article that appeared in the Mid Devon Advertiser this week. The reason being that my cousin Terry Waye is in a match photo used in the article. I first mentioned Terry on a thread about my Newton Spurs upbringing.

About three years ago when I was over at Homers Heath bucklandgull told me he had an old Liverton team photo at home that Terry Waye was in and he kindly lent me the photo to copy it.

The article is all about a planned reunion for Newton 66, a club that was founded just over fifty years ago, you can read the full article below the three pictures added to this post.
The first photo is the one used in the article that has Terry Waye in it, but they had named in as Terry Ware (I have corrected this on the line up I have put under the photo) and checking on the clubs history Terry is listed as playing for them in 1968 and the reason I have given that date to the photo, but it could be a year or two either way?
I have added to other great old team photos of former Newton 66 sides. I may be wrong but I seem to remember when I was young living in Newton Abbot that the club used the old Soup kitchens in Union Street as their base? It was building close the primary school and across the road from the building that was once the Newton Abbot Police Station.
I hope a good number of past players etc can make it to the reunion.

A REUNION is being planned for a bunch of lads who used to kick a ball about in Newton Abbot’s Baker’s Park in the days just after England won the World Cup in 1966.
The leggy wonders were still in school – but would often repair to the green acres for a Sunday kick-around after their more serious exertions on the ball the previous day.
They went on to form Newton ’66 FC – and now the old boys are anxious to meet up again, but not for a game...just a chat and a pint.
Spearheading the get-together for the 50th golden annivesary is Newton ’66 co-founder Ken Cook.
He remembers sitting in the Heavitree Arms with Derek Mitter and suggesting forming a club from the gang of Sunday footie merchants.
They approached Alan French and Harry Griffiths – and the club, now with multiple teams, was born.
Ken, together with Alan, want to hear from the early pioneers and anyone else connected with the club over the last illustrious half-century.
Anyone interested can contact Ken on 01626 354570 or email him on cookkendee@sky.com.
They can also try Alan in Teignmouth on 01626 772314.
It’s hoped that a reunion will take off in September or October if there is sufficient demand for such a bash.
