Early Morning Torbay Delights 2nd April 2017
I never seem to be able to find the time these days to do the sort of photography I want to be doing, but that is down mainly to working too many hours. I decided to change that this morning and had a strong feeling the Bay would be treated today to a wonderful sunrise.
As I get up during the week at 3.15am to go to work, it does mean I am always wide awake early over the weekends, so being up and dressed and down on Paignton Seafront by 6.15am was no real hardship for me.
I parked up close to the pier and was surprised to see at least five photographers down on the beach with their cameras mounted on tripods. This I’m sure was because they were all doing time lapse photography which is something I’m going to have a go at soon.
It really is the best time of the day as most people are still in bed and the only ones you are likely to see is a jogger or a dog walker. It allows you to concentrate on the real natural beauty of Torbay that is there for us all to enjoy.
After getting the sunrise shots I was after I drove over to Torquay and parked on the seafront and then walked to the harbour and back. It does sadden me to see the neglect and decay that is taking the shine off Torbay, one day we might get a council that really cares and does all it can to get the whole area back to how it once was.
The appearance of WRECK WALK ( Rock Walk) has not improved with time since Nick Bye ruined it, the Pavilion building is slowly being allowed to decay and even the water has been turned off in the water feature at Cary Green. But as well all know that is going to be lost soon and turned into a car park for a hotel that we do not need or want.
The shelter at one end of Rock Walk has all been boarded up to stop the rough sleepers using it at night, is that really the answer to the problem? Surely there was a much better way to deal with it.
I love Torbay and would not want to live anywhere else, but when you look at old photos of the Bay, you soon discover just how much damaged has been done to it. Some in the name of so called progress, some due to a lack of money we are told by our so called wise council.
We need to value all that is still good about Torbay and stand up together when we need too in order to protect it and prevent any further damage. There is one thing that no one can destroy and that is the power and beauty of nature, get out and enjoy it as it is still one thing that is free and will never let you down.
