Like so many other people I was so glad Torbay Council decided to stage its second airshow in the Bay after last years event lost so much money. It is a fantastic event that brings so many people into Torbay; to be honest I have never seen so many people in Paignton before as I did today.
The weather was kind and even the high tide decided to leave enough beach for the mass crowds to use, taking a picture of the packed beach, took me back to a time when our local beaches were always this full during the summer months, well nearly.
There looked far more people at the first day of this year’s airshow than last year, but that maybe because the Red Arrows were in this years opening day unlike last year when one had to wait until the Sunday show to see them. In fact this year they are flying on both days so a chance for those to see them that could not make it to the Bay today.
Last year I went on both days but as this year it’s the same programme for both days just in a different order, I won’t be going to the Sunday show.
Also unlike last year there was a warning given out over the load speakers’ about the state of alert here in the UK concerning possible future terrorist attacks. But it was soon forgotten as people just got on an enjoyed all that was on offer.
Seeing so many families and other people all together in one place enjoying a great day out is how it should be for anywhere else in the UK, we must all continue to live our lives free from fear and danger.
For me I think last years show being the very first airshow in the Bay seemed to hold a bit more magic than this year, but only for the reason it was the first one and it was something I had never seen before.
So much praise must be heaped on all the people who organised such a wonderful event and I hope it is an event that is here to stay for so many more years to come. The Bay lends itself for such a show and if nothing else, it keeps the seafront seagull free for a while.
I said it last year and I will say it again, well done Torbay, feel very very proud of putting on such a great event for so many people to enjoy and remember.
