Meadfoot Beach & Thatchers Rock 17th November 2017
I think it might just be because I’m getting much older that I appreciate more than ever, nature and the wonderful world we live in. Can there be a better place to live in this world than Torbay? Yes the town centre looks a bit run down, yes we seem to have more homeless living on our streets than ever before, but just minutes away from all of this, are the real reasons we love it here so much.
It does not matter which part of the coast in the Bay you visit, it is beautiful from Berry Head right around to Watcombe Beach and beyond. I have often found myself at Meadfoot Beach on a Sunday afternoon after a Sunday lunch at the Old Coach House in Babbacombe. Just to get an ice-cream from the ice-cream van and look out to sea while I eat it.
Sadly the slipway at one end down to the beach was badly damaged by the sea last winter and still has not been repaired by Torbay Council, but then they are so guilty of letting so much of the Bay fall into disrepair. Lovely Coves closed off to the public because there is no money to stabilise the cliffs, who knows one day even Meadfoot Beach will no longer be a place we can go and enjoy.
The very high sea wall there has had to be repaired many times due to winter storms, but any future repairs needed must be carried out as this is a very special place in my opinion.
I started today’s walk close to Thatchers Rock and walked along the coast path up to Hopes Nose. From there I retraced my steps and walked on to Meadfoot Beach. What a beautiful day in the winters sun, feel so lucky to be alive and have such beauty around me.
