It has been the case for the last few weeks that it has been all work and no play when at my age it should be the other way around. Knowing I have to work again tomorrow and having a rare day off today, I was determined to go out for a while.
I have been planning to walk from Staverton Station to Totnes for a while and that is where I headed off. Sadly some way into the walk it all became a bit to muddy, so I did not complete the whole walk.
One of the reasons to do this walk was also to get some more shots of steam trains and living here we are lucky to have two different company and lines to choose from. The South Devon Steam Railway runs from Buckfastleigh to Totnes stopping in the middle at Staverton Station.
I went on this train many years ago when my Dutch mate Rolf was over from Holland with his family on holiday in the Bay. That day was a special Thomas The Tank Engine event complete with the fat controller at Buckfastleigh Station.
I will always be thankful I live in such a wonderful place, with the sea, the moors and the countryside on my doorstep. Beauty everywhere and people always willing to stop and have a chat, it is no wonder so many people end up coming here to retire.
I will return when its much dryer to compete the whole planned walk, but I enjoyed the time I did spend at Staverton.
