Casey’s Diner Gone But Not Forgotten. A few months ago I shared some photos of Casey’s Diner on the facebook page, Torbay Undiscovered, Lost, Forgotten, Unloved!
I was amazed at how many posts the photos received and even more surprised with the actual view points people had on the diner. Some like me loved the place, while others clearly did not.
I am not sure when the diner first opened, but think it was early in 2009 at the site of a former car garage. The building was just perfect for an American diner and was the first one ever in Paignton.
The decoration inside was perfect and I do not think I have even seen such wonderful decorations for Halloween anywhere else as could be found at Casey’s Diner. The food was OK, not too expensive and kids certainly loved it. It was a place you either loved or hated and I just happened to have been a fan of the place.
I believe there were a series of burglaries at the Diner that in the end forced it too close down, there was a Compulsory liquidation order that commenced on the 7 April 2011, so the diner must have only been open for around two years.
The building was taken over by the Animal In Distress Charity who are still using it today. I am glad it is in use, far better than another empty building just becoming an eyesore, but like many others I wish we still had our very own American Diner.
