Bovey Tracey To Lustleigh Cycle Ride 5th July 2018
Checking my cycle computer last week I discovered it’s been over two years since I went out on a bike ride. That probably explains why the bike still looks brand new and in perfect condition.
Today’s ride all came about after talking to the head chef at the Cleave pub in Lusteigh. A few months ago when the snow was deep on the ground, he and his fellow chef walked from Parke near Bovey to Lustleigh to get to work.
He said he thought it had taken an hour and a bit and was a lovely walk that was mostly flat as a part of it was along a disused railway line. I had thought about walking it this week while I was off work, but to be honest did not fancy having to do the walk back.
So I decided to do it on my bike, but rather than start from Parke, I went from the heart of Bovey Tracey which is a longer route. I had walked from Bovey to Parke in the past along the old railway line, but once near Parke the line came to an end.
But now the top has been put back on one of the old railway bridges so you can go further along the old track bed. Sadly not as far as I had hoped as you come to another bridge you are unable to go over and so the path goes down and joins a lane into the village.
This part of the ride was uphill and took a bit out of my legs, but it was lovely on the return trip. I go to Lusteigh most days of the week in my job, but I was so delighted to find some wonderful thatched cottages I have never seen before.
The ride was not to short or to long and was perfect for a first ride after not using my bike for so long. Might just have got the cycling bug back again and already thinking about my next ride.
