Brixham Pirate Day 5th May 2019
There are so many things I enjoy attending that would not be possible is it was not for the hard work and dedication of so many others. I love watching local football matches but I am fully aware without people giving their time freely for the love of their club, there would be no games to watch.
Many local events in Devon and even further a field has been lost over the years, some simply because there was no one no willing to organise and run it. Others simply because it all became far to expensive to put the event on due to rising costs to close roads, provide insurance and so many other costs.
Yet such events bring in so many people to the Bay all spending money and helping the local economy along apart for all the pleasure and enjoyment they provide, but they are always endanger of being lost forever.
I was at the BMAD festival on Saturday (4th May) and that event was in danger of not being put on due to a lack of funds. The Brixham Pirate Festival was also so nearly lost for the same reasons and we cannot afford to lose such wonderful events in the Bay.
I have been to the Pirates day before but it was only on the Bank Holiday Monday which does not have all the things that are on during the Saturday and Sunday, so I put that right today. I enjoyed watching the muster and parade and it was so wonderful to see so many people dressed up as pirates.
I also got to see my first skirmish on the Golden Hind, all very enjoyable and we must not forget this is all put on for free. I did make sure I put money into a number of the collecting buckets; these events need every penny they can get if they are to continue.
The weather was perfect, Brixham was full to the brim and I can’t thank enough all the people who made today happen, Be proud, very proud for you hard work and dedication that has brought so much pleasure to thousands of people
