MS Amadea In Torbay 14th May 2019
On Sunday the 12th May the cruise ship Artania visited the Bay and just two days later we saw our second cruise ship of the year visit the Bay, MS Amadea. I was lucky to have today off work as I love seeing cruise ships in the Bay and love photographing them.
She was due in at 12pm and when I left home to catch my favourite bus from the Zoo the open topped 122 at 1.15pm, I thought she would already be in anchor over in Torquay. As the 122 went down over Penwill Way I was surprised to see her still off Berryhead. I was to learn much later that a passenger of the ship had been taken ill and the air ambulance had been called. The passenger was airlifted and taken to Derriford Hospital.
As the bus made its way over to Torquay I could see the ship coming in closer and making its way to where it was going to drop its anchor. I got off the bus by the Grand Hotel and made my way along the seafront until I got to Haldon Pier, from there I was able to get the shots I was after.
Standing right at the very end of the pier and looking over the harbour always fill me with such a wonderful felling as Torquay looks just wonderful from that location. I am sure all the passengers who did come ashore must have liked what they saw.
I was very surprised to see not one but six coaches waiting to take the passengers somewhere, so maybe none of them actually spent anytime in and around the town itself. I can never ever get tired of taking photos around the Bay, forget the rundown town centres and all that go with them, just get near the sea and you will soon feel you are living in paradise.
