Oyster & Saltern Cove 3rd July 2019
Trying to get a day off work is becoming a bigger fight every week, but it is one I try my best to win. Having just a Sunday off is not enough and even more so when its wet and windy and I end up having to stay indoors.
While there was a gentle breeze today, the sun was out and conditions good enough to get the drone up in the air and have some fun. I will at some point invest in a much better drone with a superior camera, but for now the one I have is doing its job and as it did not cost the earth, I won’t cry too many tears if I crashed it or lost it.
It’s for that reason I am not afraid to fly it over water, I might not be so keen to do so with a drone that cost over a thousand pounds and I have watched many U tube videos of very expensive drones that ended up at the bottom of an ocean or river.
There is something very unspoilt about Oyster & Saltern Coves, the only sign of mans interference are the steps put there to gain access to them. I flew the drone around for a good while and after getting the shots I wanted put it away and got my main camera out.
I walked down the steps into Oyster Cove and then around on the rocks to Saltern Cove which I fully enjoyed, I could see the Devils Armchair as it is known locally and having never being up close to it before, wondered if I could access it from Saltern Cove.
Well it is possible but at my age I found it rather difficult and slightly dangerous, but I did it and if I was twenty years younger I would have had a go at climbing up on it. I forgot to mention that I made a new friend as I walked along Saltern Cove, a crab I did not notice but one that sure noticed me.
I was just standing still taking a photo when I felt something nip my trainer and I looked down and there he was. I have to say he was good and stayed still for his photo shoot and I was impressed with its red eyes and lovely markings on its body.
I had to go back over some rocks to get to some steps that lead you from the Devils Armchair to the grassed area above it. I then realised I would have to go up all those steps on the other side of the railway line to get back to my car.
This area of Paignton has to be one of the best spots in the whole of the Bay, the views all around are just wonderful and you get the added bonus of the passing steam trains For a while I sat on one of the benches on the grassed area above the Devils Armpit, I told myself how lucky I was to live in such a beautiful place, it is just a shame not everyone feels the same way about Torbay.
