Broadsands A Different View 12th July 2019
When it comes to having time off work I am not the most luckiest as far as the weather is concerned. But I have sure got lucky this week and I have enjoyed going out with my drone and camera. Monday and Tuesday were both fun days, but I stayed out in the sun far to long and my arms got a bit burnt.
So I decided to stay in on Wednesday and let them recover a bit and I only went outside to cut the grass and tidy the garden up a bit. I had already made my plans for Thursday to go to the Bicton Park Botanical Gardens, a place I thought would provide some good photo opportunities.
To be honest I was not very impressed with the place and thought it was not worth the entrance fee or the time it took to get there. I did made sure I still enjoyed my time there, but I won’t be going again. My report and pictures from the The Bicton Park Botanical Gardens, can be seen on this thread.

After recent photo shoots at Oyster & Saltern Coves and the Devils Armchair, I wanted to move further along the cliffs to Broadsands. When I was parking there in the winter months It cost just £1 for all day parking. As I wanted to play on the safe side I paid for three hours today at a cost of £3.50p, our council sure likes to make its money during the simmer months.
As I have got older I have grown a love for cliff faces and rock formations and the drone has played its part so far enabling me to get some good shots and will even more so in the future. But many good shots can also be got down on our beaches and my main aim today was to get some shots from the far end of Broadsands Beach.
I did for a short while fly the drone from the top of the cliff above Broadsands, but it was a bit to windy and after my recent seagull attack, cut the flying time short. I hung around up there waiting for the next steam train to pass and when it did I made my way down to the beach.
I headed first to the left hand side of the beach, here the red cliffs and the green covered rocks made some great shots. The Bay always seems huge to me, but it is amazing how man buildings you can pick out and recognise from Broadsands.
I then made my way around the beach taking some more normal type shoots and headed up onto the downs, but I did not go too far, mindful of the time I had left in the car park. I got talking to a young couple from Swindon on their last day of their holiday in Torbay. They told me how much they fell in love with this area, but we all know that love we have ourselves for this wonderful place.
I ended my report yesterday about my day at the Bicton Park Botanical Gardens saying “My days out walking and exploring on Monday and Tuesday were more fun and far more enjoyable and both days cost me nothing, it just goes to prove you do not need to spend money to have a good time and sometimes it is the case that the best things in life are so often free” I think it must be the truest statement I have ever made.
