Broadsands With The Mavic Pro 28th Aug 2019
I bought my first drone as a Christmas present to myself and soon discovered I loved the shots I was able to get with it. The plan was if I really took to drone flying at some stage I would invest in a more expensive one. I had two drones in mind I thought I would buy next, both nowhere near as expensive as a drone made by DJI would have cost me.
But after joining a number of facebook groups for both of the drones I was looking at, I soon discovered many users were having so many issues with the drones after firmware updates etc. I decided to wait and monitor the progress of both the drones as further firmware updates might have fixed all the issues and got them working properly.
My idea drone was always one made by DJI but I could not really justify paying the asking price and I was prepared to wait for either of the two drones I was looking at, to be free of any problems.
DJI brought out the mark 2 Mavic Pro and there were many mark 1’s still on the shelf’s of a number of retailers. The mark 1 flymore combo (extra batteries and case etc) when it first came out cost around the £1450.00 mark. I was looking at maybe buying a second-hand mark 1 but then found out Argos were selling their remaining stock of the Mavic Pro Mark 1 Flymore Combo for just £799. They very soon sold out at that price and I was one of the lucky ones who got one.
I had planned to keep my first drone the Bugs 5W to use in places I might not want to send the Mavic Pro, but a very dear friend wanted to buy it and I was happy to sell it to him.
The Mavic pro shoots video in 4k and has a three axis mechanical gimbal, a five mile range and reach speeds of 40mph, but I stick to the drone rules and only fly line of sight and do not plan to fly it at full speed.
The morning was the third time I took the Mavic Pro out and while not the best conditions to fly in and get really great shots, I was happy with the way I am getting used to flying the new drone. I am not yet as brave as I was flying the Bugs 5w, but I will over come all my fears in time.
The Mavic Pro like all DJI drones is geo fenced meaning it can’t fly in places it is not allowed to such as near airports and prisons etc, but it is more than happy to fly everywhere else. I am really looking forward to getting some amazing photos and videos with this drone but for now I am content just to get more practise flying it locally.
