Walls Hill Drone Shoot 8th September 2019
I was up at 5am this morning as I find it hard to stay in bed after having to get up that time every day for work. I was hoping to get some shots of this morning’s sunrise and headed for Broadsands around 6.30am. What I did not realize was the car park does not open until 8am, so I then decided to head over to Walls Hill in Torquay.
By the time I got there the sun was already up and I was not able to get the shots I was after, but I did get to get some more flight time with the new drone and that is very important right now.
Like any other type of relationship respect and trust are very important and I need both of them as far as the drone is concerned. I fully respect what it is and therefore make sure I fly it safely following the UK drone code. The trust side is a bit more harder, it is a very expensive piece of kit to put up into the sky. You have to put your faith fully into the technology built into the drone and I am not fully there just yet.
I parked the car near the Cliff railway as I wanted to enjoy the walk along Babbacombe Downs to Walls Hill; it is a great time of the morning as there is hardly anyone else around.
The views from the Downs are ones you can never get bored with, they are breath taking no matter what time of the day or night it is. I got to Walls Hill which was deserted and chose a spot to set up and fly from. In less than five minutes the Mavic was up in the air and I was clicking away on the camera button.
I must get into the habit of shooting video footage but I have always been a stills man and I just forget to switch over to video. I would at sometime like to make a short film of all our beaches and coves in the Bay, it is something I need to plan out and do over a number of months.
The Downs slowly started to fill up with dog walkers and some were looking up into the sky to view the drone. One gentleman came over for a chat about drone flying before heading off to play a round of golf.
It was time to pack up and head for home; I can never wait to get the photos etc onto the PC to view them and am seldom disappointed with the shots I got. I have so many places I want to go and fly the drone and get some photos, but work gets in the way and also the weather.
For anyone thinking of taking up the hobby all I can say its great fun, but worrying at times when the seagulls are about, but its their airspace far more than mine and so I just have to keep my eye on them and the location of the drone in the sky.
