Torbryan Quarry & Church and Village 9th March 2020
A friend of mine told me he thought Torbryan Quarry would be a good place to fly my drone, but after visiting the site today I think he must mean some of the open spaces some distance from the quarry. While I knew it was not good drone flying weather today, I thought I would go and check the site out.
I was unable to find out any history on the quarry on a goggle search, but I did find a few photos of people rock climbing there. I got the impression this was a good sized quarry and even while I knew it was going to rain today, I set off all excited in the hope I could find it.
That turned out to be very easy and I was soon standing at the base of a rock face, but surely this was not the main quarry, it was rather small and I convinced myself that must be more to find close by. I started walking up a very wet steep and muddy path and often found my boots in deep mud that saw me so many times nearly on my backside as I slipped this way and that way.
I walked for a good while often taking different paths but there was no sign of any other rock formations that might be a quarry. In the end I headed back the way I had come and came across a lady walking her dog who informed me the quarry was what I had found earlier.
A major disappointment and not really worth the effort getting there so I decided to head into Torbryan and take a look at the church that was build around 1450. The rain was coming down heavier now and I was not able to stop water drops betting onto my camera lens so not ideal conditions to take photos.
I always find it a bit creepy going into an empty church on my own, not really sure why but once inside I soon relax. I found the pews rather strange in this church , they are all contained in their own box arrangement that even has a locking system on them. I have never seen such an arrangement before as far as I can remember in any other church I have been in.
I left the church and walked around this very small village that does not have that many houses in it. I had to keep trying to wipe my camera lens with not a lot of success. So I gave up and headed back to my car, at least I got out of the house today and did something, Just hope there will be some better days weather wise this week before I have to go back to work again.
