Stover Trail Cycle Ride Sunday 2nd August 2020
I was a bit disappointed with myself yesterday as I did not go out as I had planed to do, something I knew I was going to put right today. But what to do? Fly the drone, do a photo shoot somewhere, or go for a bike ride.
The last time I had rode my bike the disk brakes were so noisy and so I decided to buy some Isopropyl Alcohol to clean the disk rotors. It came this week and I used it as well as taking the dick pads out and running some sandpaper over them.
I did not want to ride to be too hard as I have not been out on the bike for a good while, but I wanted some distance and at a place where It is safe to ride. There have been a number of cyclists injured on the roads recently as there are now far more on the road mainly due to the virus.
I settled on a ride I have done before the Stover Trail from Newton Abbot to Bovey Tracey, this ride there and back is about 12 miles. Most of it is off road and the two parts that are not, hardly ever get any traffic on them.
As I set off for Newton it started to rain, but I kept going and apart from two heavy showers during the ride, the rest of the ride was in dry weather. I parked up in Osborne car park which was always free on a Sunday, but now you have to pay the grand sum of one whole pound for the whole day, you could not park in Torbay for half an hour for that price.
From the car park I went to Town Quay where I started the ride and was soon on my way to Bovey via the Stover Trail. As I said a ride I have done before, I have also walked most of it and it really is a place I enjoy visiting with all its interesting history.
There were plenty of other out on their bikes or walking their dogs on the trail, but not as many as I was expecting. I was pleased with my energy levels and how well the bike performed; I really must start using it a lot more.
