Yalberton Lockdown Walks 8th Feb 2021
Come rain or shine I have found I have needed to go out for a daily walk during this third lockdown. I have made sure I have done as asked and have always started the walks from my front door. Most times I have walked through the Yalberton industrial estate past the Paignton tip site and into the country lanes. From there I have often ended up by the Sainsbury Store and headed towards Windy Corner.
Today I decided to stay in the lanes after passing the tip and head towards Stoke Gabriel before I got to Long Road as I knew that then this walk would be a mixture of very old and very new as far as the buildings would be concerned.
It was bitterly cold today and rather than take my heavy DSLR camera I settled for a small compact digital one as it does a good enough job. This walk was four miles long and no real big long hills to climb. As is always the case walking in lanes you need to listen out for and car or vans as many drivers speed along lanes far to fast.
I live on a main road that is like the M5 most days, but I only need to walk a short way from my home to be in a far more peaceful world, but one that has changed over the years. Old cider works, barns etc now converted into homes, but somehow still keeping their charm.
After a good while Long Road opens up into an industrial estate and also the home of the South Devon College that moved over to Paignton from Torquay. It tool over a new building that had been built for the Nortel factory before that company left the Bay. The college has since added a number of other new buildings close by. At the top end of the road on what was the main old Nortel building there is now a Range and a few other outlets.
Just the last mile or so to go now on the main Brixham Road heading for home, this road has changed so much over the last ten years and is going to for a number of more years to come. I really enjoyed todays walk but was glad in the end to back indoors in the warm.
